Gios "Professional Donna" from 1985 Campagnolo Nuovo Record group.
Gios Torino bikes, in their traditional blue colors, are probably among the most famous racing machines of the seventies and eighties. In 1948, Tolmino Gios, once a professional cyclist himself and a member of, for example, the Italian national team that participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, laid the foundations of the company, initially with a bicycle store. Since the early 1970s, the company has specialized in racing bicycles and has since provided the equipment for various racing teams. Gios bikes achieved their greatest successes in the late 1970s with the Brooklyn and IJsboerke racing teams. Racing with Brooklyn on Gios bikes were Roger De Vlaeminck and Patrick Sercu. De Vlaeminck won Paris-Roubaix three times on a Gios bike during this period, as well as Milan-Sanremo, the Tour of Flanders and the Tour of Lombardy. He finished second in the World Road Championships for professionals. A certain Didi Thurau also became famous on Gios bikes. The bike offered here is one of the last road bike frames produced in steel for professional cycling by Gios. In the late nineties, Gios supplied frames to the Kelme team.
Then in 1983, Gios also launched the evolution of the Super Record frame under the influence of Roger De Vlaeminck. The Gios Torino "Professional" was built from '83-'86 and has a slightly modified, improved geometry, the cable for the rear brake now runs in the tube - in addition, Gios had extra covers made to protect against moisture in the frame. But the most striking change is certainly the now completely reshaped fork, which is now much more aerodynamic.
Here we now have an absolute specialty, of which not many frames were built. A Gios Torino "Professional Donna" so a purebred women's racing bike built with the know-how and materials of the men's bike. This frame is ultra rare. Columbus SL tubes are also used here and the special "Professional" chrome fork can also be found here. Equipped this bike with a Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset that got a few updates from the Super Record. The rare Cinelli cockpit with the "Priest" handlebar fits this bike perfectly.
A great classic that will certainly provide enthusiastic looks at the L'Eroica.
