Olympia ist nach Bianchi (gegründet 1885) wahrscheinlich älteste italienische Fahrradmarke. Sie wurde 1893 von Carlo Borghi gegründet. Anfangs baute man auch Motorräder, Borghis Leidenschaft und Energie galt jedoch dem professionellen Radsport. Er baute also die ersten Rennradrahmen, die sich von den zur der Zeit übliche Rahmen anderer Hersteller unterschieden und ließ Athleten in seinen Olympia-Trikots, weiß mit einem schwarzen Streifen antreten. Enrico Mollo erreichte beispielsweise den zweiten Platz beim Giro d'Italia (1940) und Pietro Chiappini gewann das Rennen Mailand-Turin (1941) auf Olympia Rädern.
Im Jahr 1959 wurde die Marke anschließend von Antonio und Pasquale Fontana übernommen, die zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits die Marke Sanremo und andere besaßen. Das Unternehmen befindet sich heute in Piove di Sacco (Padua) und besitzt seit 2013 auch die traditionsreiche Marke Scapin.

Das hier vorgestellte Rad stammt aus Mitte der Achtziger Jahre und stellte damals das beste Modell aus dem Hause Olympia dar. Der Rahmen ist aus hochwertigen, spiralverstärkten Columbus SLX Rohren gefertigt. Typisch für Olympia ist das gravierte Emblem im Steuerrohr und der typisch verchromte Hinterbau mit der extra schöne Strebenanlegung ans Sattelrohr. Auch die aufwendig verzierten Muffen machen diesen ebenfalls sehr leichten Rahmen zu einer Besonderheit. Aufgebaut ist das Rad überwiegend mit einer hervorragend erhaltenen Campagnolo Super Record Gruppe. Die hochwertigen Bremsen von Modolo passen farblich perfekt zur Perlmutt-Lackierung des Rahmens. Olympia is probably the oldest Italian bicycle brand after Bianchi (founded in 1885). It was founded in 1893 by Carlo Borghi. Initially they also built motorcycles, but Borghi's passion and energy was for professional cycling. So he built the first racing bike frames, which were different from the frames of other manufacturers at the time, and had athletes compete in his Olympic jerseys, white with a black stripe. For example, Enrico Mollo finished second in the Giro d'Italia (1940) and Pietro Chiappini won the Milan-Turin race (1941) on Olympia wheels.

The bike presented here dates from the mid-eighties and represented the best model from Olympia at the time. The frame is made of high-quality, spiral-reinforced Columbus SLX tubes.
