Olympia ist nach Bianchi (gegründet 1885) wahrscheinlich die älteste italienische Fahrradmarke. Sie wurde 1893 von Carlo Borghi gegründet. Anfangs baute man auch Motorräder, doch Borghis Leidenschaft und Energie galten dem professionellen Radsport. Er baute die ersten Rennradrahmen, die sich von den zu der Zeit üblichen Rahmen anderer Hersteller unterschieden, und ließ Athleten in seinen Olympia-Trikots, weiß mit einem schwarzen Streifen, antreten. Enrico Mollo erreichte beispielsweise den zweiten Platz beim Giro d'Italia (1940), und Pietro Chiappini gewann das Rennen Mailand-Turin (1941) auf Olympia-Rädern.

Im Jahr 1959 wurde die Marke von Antonio und Pasquale Fontana übernommen, die zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits die Marke Sanremo und andere besaßen. Das Unternehmen befindet sich heute in Piove di Sacco (Padua) und besitzt seit 2013 auch die traditionsreiche Marke Scapin.

Das hier vorgestellte Rad stammt aus der Mitte der achtziger Jahre und stellte damals das beste Modell aus dem Hause Olympia dar. Der Rahmen ist aus hochwertigen, spiralverstärkten Columbus SLX-Rohren gefertigt. Typisch für Olympia ist das gravierte Emblem im Steuerrohr und der toll verchromte Hinterbau mit der extra schönen Strebenanlegung ans Sattelrohr. Auch die aufwendig verzierten Muffen machen diesen sehr leichten Rahmen zu einer Besonderheit. Aufgebaut ist das Rad mit einer hervorragend erhaltenen Campagnolo Super Record Gruppe. Ein Cinelli-Cockpit, O.M.A.S Titan-Innenlager und edle Wolber Profil-Felgen runden diesen tollen Klassiker ab.

Ein leichtes, sehr hübsches Rad - ideal für schöne Ausfahrten oder Klassikertreffen wie der L'Eroica.

Olympia, likely the oldest Italian bicycle brand after Bianchi (founded in 1885), was established in 1893 by Carlo Borghi. Initially, the company also manufactured motorcycles, but Borghi's passion and energy were devoted to professional cycling. He built the first racing bike frames that differed from the standard frames of other manufacturers at the time and had athletes compete in his Olympia jerseys, white with a black stripe. For example, Enrico Mollo achieved second place in the Giro d'Italia (1940), and Pietro Chiappini won the Milan-Turin race (1941) on Olympia bikes.

In 1959, the brand was taken over by Antonio and Pasquale Fontana, who already owned the Sanremo brand and others at that time. Today, the company is located in Piove di Sacco (Padua) and has owned the traditional brand Scapin since 2013.

The bike presented here dates from the mid-eighties and was the best model from Olympia at that time. The frame is made of high-quality, spiral-reinforced Columbus SLX tubes. Typical for Olympia is the engraved emblem in the head tube and the beautifully chromed rear triangle with the extra-nice seat stay attachment to the seat tube. The elaborately decorated lugs also make this very light frame a special feature. The bike is equipped with a beautifully preserved Campagnolo Super Record group. A Cinelli cockpit, O.M.A.S titanium bottom bracket, and noble Wolber profile rims complete this great classic.
