Diamant - da denken wir Deutschen natürlich erst einmal an eine Fahrradmarke, die im Osten ihre besten Zeiten im Radsport hatte. Aber Diamant Rahmen wurden auch in Belgien gebaut und vertreiben. Hinter der Marke DIAMANT steckt August Simons ein ehemaliger belgischer Radprofi, der nach seiner aktiven Karriere, wie viele weitere Fahrer auch, seine eigene Radmarke auf den Markt brachte. Die hochwertigen Rahmen wurden zum Teil bei Martelly gefertigt. Martelly wiederum hat u.a einige Rahmen für den berühmten Freddy Maertens gebaut.

Das hier vorgestellte Rad ist etwas Besonderes. Dieser um 1990 gebaute Diamant Rahmen ist aus extra leichten Columbus EL Rohren gefertigt und die Besonderheit ist der sogenannte "Monostay" im Hinterbau. Hier laufen die Sitzstreben nicht mehr komplett bis zu Sattelmuffe hoch, sondern enden auf Höhe der Hinterradbremse, um dann mit dem Monostay nach oben zur Sattelmuffe geführt zu werden. Ziel war es, das Rad steifer und härter, damit schneller zu machen. Diese Art des Rahmenbaus hat man später auch lange bei Carbonrahmen gesehen, viele Look oder BMC Rahmen sind lange ebenfalls mit einem Monostay gebaut worden.

Wenn man sich diesen Diamant Rahmen einmal genau ansieht, erkennt man die ganze Kunst des Rahmenbaus. (Egal, ob der Rahmen nun durch den Monostay besonders steif und damit schnell ist, darum geht es wohl keinem Liebhaber alter Stahlrahmen) Dieser Rahmen ist ein Kunstwerk. So filigran, so toll gemufft, nicht nur der zierliche Monostay, auch die hinteren Ausfallenden und die Gabel - der Rahmen ist einfach toll. Es wurden nachweislich nur 150 dieser Rahmen, dann auch noch in unterschiedlichen Rohrsätzen gebaut. Ich war natürlich auch selber gespannt, wie sich solch eine Rahmenkonstruktion fährt und bin selber 30km mit dem Rad gefahren. Ich muss sagen, dass das Rad sehr agil und schnell ist, sehr direkt und auch steif, ohne dabei übertreiben hart hinten zu wirken. Ich kann definitiv sagen, dass dieser Rahmen einer der besten Stahlrahmen ist, den ich vom Gefühl her je gefahren bin. Ich bin nach wie vor begeister.

Sicher trägt auch der Aufbau dazu bei. Endlich könnte ich einmal ein Rad mit der Suntour Superbe Pro Gruppe aufbauen. Leider ist diese Gruppe vielen noch immer recht unbekannt. Campagnolo Super Record kennen mittlerweile alle Sammler, während die Superbe Pro leider noch immer unter dem Radar vieler Radbegeisterter läuft. Wer einmal eine Bremse aus diese japanischen Produktion in den Händen gehalten hat, der weiß sicher, wovon ich spreche. Die Schalthebel, die sich spielend leicht ohne jegliches Schleifen der Kette einstellen lassen, sind einfach ein Traum. Naben, die laufen als hätte man aktuelle Tune - "Edelnaben" für 1000€ in der Hand, die aber 30 Jahre alt sind - einfach japanische Perfektion.

Ich könnte hier noch ewig schwärmen - eigentlich möchte ich dieses Rad nicht verkaufen - aber wie sagt meine Freundin immer: "Du hast einen Fahrradladen und kein Fahrradmuseum..."
An diesem Rad kann man so viel entdecken und beim Fahren so viel Freude haben - einfach ein besonderes Fahrrad.

Diamant - of course, we Germans first think of a bicycle brand that had its best days in cycling in the East. But Diamant frames were also built and distributed in Belgium. Behind the brand DIAMANT is August Simons a former Belgian professional cyclist, who after his active career, like many other riders also, brought his own bike brand on the market. The high-quality frames were partly manufactured at Martelly. Martelly in turn built some frames for the famous Freddy Maertens, among others.

The bike presented here is something special. This diamond frame built around 1990 is made of extra light Columbus EL tubes and the special feature is the so-called "Monostay" in the rear triangle. Here, the seat stays no longer run completely up to the saddle sleeve, but end at the height of the rear brake, to then be led with the monostay up to the saddle sleeve. The goal was to make the wheel stiffer and harder, thus faster. This type of frame construction has long been seen later in carbon frames, many Look or BMC frames have long also been built with a monostay.

If you look at this diamond frame once closely, you can see the whole art of frame building. (No matter whether the frame is now particularly stiff and thus fast by the Monostay, it is probably not a lover of old steel frames) This frame is a work of art. So filigree, so great lugged, not only the delicate Monostay, also the rear dropouts and the fork - the frame is just great. It is proven that only 150 of these frames were built, then also in different tube sets. Of course, I was also curious myself, how such a frame construction drives and have driven myself 30km with the wheel. I must say that the wheel is very agile and fast, very direct and also stiff, without being overly hard rear. I can definitely say that this frame is one of the best steel frames I have ever ridden in terms of feel. I am still enthusiastic.

I'm sure the build contributes to this as well. Finally, I could once build a wheel with the Suntour Superbe Pro group. Unfortunately, this group is still quite unknown to many. Campagnolo Super Record now know all collectors, while the Superbe Pro unfortunately still runs under the radar of many bike enthusiasts. Who has once held a brake from this Japanese production in the hands, who knows for sure what I'm talking about. The shifters, which can be easily adjusted without any grinding of the chain, are simply a dream. Hubs that run as if you had current Tune - "noble hubs" for 1000 € in the hand, but which are 30 years old - simply Japanese perfection.

I could rave here forever - actually I would not like to sell this wheel - but as my girlfriend always says: "You have a bike store and not a bicycle museum ..."
On this bike you can discover so much and have so much fun while riding - simply a special bike.
