BMC TEAMMACHINE SLT01 PHONAK Bert Grabsch 2005

53cm center/center – Campagnolo Record Titanium

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Original Phonak team bike from 2005 - BMC TEAMMACHINE SLT01 PHONAK BERT GRABSCH CAMPAGNOLO RECORD TITANIUM + ZIPP 303

This bike is actually far too young for my site, but it reflects the time when I really got into cycling. It really started for me in 1996 with Team Telekom's Tour victory and a year later with Ullrich's triumph in France. At that time, I went into bike stores and marveled at the bikes the pros were riding. Of course, it was financially impossible for me to buy such a bike back then. But my fascination for cycling and the bikes/technology was definitely awakened. When BMC then launched the first "team machine" frames in this spectacular lugged design in the early 2000s, I was completely "flashed". I knew the reports from various cycling magazines about these frames by heart. Now, many years later, I was offered this original Phonak machine from 2005 - Bert Grabsch's work machine - for sale. And somehow that fascination from 20 years ago was there again. Many bikes from that time are boring in design and the paintwork is rather unspectacular. With Team Phonak and this BMC, everything is just right for me.

It was not for nothing that BMC won several prizes at the time. The frame was considered the best on the market at the time. Phonak also rode Campagnolo at that time. The 10-speed Record Titanium with the carbon crank and the carbon rear derailleur are not often found in this condition today. Another sponsor was Easton, who supplied the seat post and stem and actually also the handlebars. However, a lighter Syntase was used on this bike. (Rider's wish?) If you look at pictures from the cycling era, you immediately notice the big difference in the material and especially in the wheels. Phonak could already fall back on aerodynamic and super light Zipp 303, while smaller teams still used flat aluminum rims. Phonak was one of the teams with relatively much money, they could fall back on the best material.

As mentioned at the beginning, this was the working equipment of German rider "Bert Grabsch" in 2005. He was employed by the team from 2001 to 2006. His greatest international success includes the individual time trial title at the 2008 World Championships in Varese, Italy. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he finished eighth in the time trial. Furthermore, Grabsch was 4x German champion in the individual time trial and won a stage at the Dauphiné Libéré.

This bike is a piece of cycling history! A machine with professional DNA and already a classic today.
The condition can be described as mint. You don't find a professional racer like this very often.
Also included is a Phonak kit consisting of shorts/jersey and the book on the history and successes of the team.
