Ernesto Colnago wurde am 9. Februar 1932 in Cambiago bei Mailand, Italien, geboren. Schon als Teenager begeisterte er sich für Fahrräder und schraubte viel an ihnen herum. 1952 gründete er schließlich die Firma Colnago und begann als Mechaniker für mehrere professionelle Teams zu arbeiten. Die Marke Colnago steht wie kaum eine andere für Tradition im Radsport. Ernesto Colnago tüftelte ununterbrochen, ging Kooperationen beispielsweise mit Ferrari ein, hatte legendäre Rennfahrer wie Eddy Merckx an seiner Seite, integrierte früh den Werkstoff Carbon in den Rahmenbau und stattet auch heute noch Pro-Tour-Teams mit Rahmen aus.

Der hier vorgestellte Colnago „Tecnos Art Decor" gehört zu den außergewöhnlichsten Stahlrahmen, die jemals das Colnago-Werk in Cambiago verlassen haben. Sein markant profiliertes Columbus-Nivacrom-Rohrset war eine eigens für Colnago entwickelte Weiterführung der klassischen Stahlbaukunst und verband hohe Steifigkeit mit einem für Stahlrahmen seiner Zeit ungewöhnlich niedrigen Gewicht. Die charakteristischen, gewellten und teils fünfeckigen Rohrquerschnitte dienten jedoch nicht nur der Optik: Sie steigerten die strukturelle Stabilität, ohne das Gesamtgewicht zu erhöhen – ein technisches Kunststück der späten 1990er Jahre. Der Rohrdurchmesser ist im Vergleich zu den vom Design her ähnlichen Master-Rahmen etwas gestiegen, wodurch der Rahmen gleichzeitig leichter und steifer wurde.

Optisch ist der Tecnos in der Art-Decor-Lackierung ein Meisterwerk italienischer Handwerkskunst. Die aufwendigen Farbverläufe, Schablonenarbeiten und Chromdetails an Muffen, Ausfallenden und an der klassischen Precisa-Stahlgabel machen jedes Exemplar zu einem individuellen Kunstobjekt. Diese Verbindung aus technischer Finesse und kunstvoller Ausführung ist typisch für Colnago und trägt maßgeblich zum heutigen Sammlerwert des Rahmens bei.
Der Tecnos wurde etwa zwischen 1995 und 2000 produziert und gilt als einer der letzten High-End-Stahlrahmen, bevor Aluminium und später Carbon den Markt dominierten. 

Obwohl Colnago im Profipeloton traditionell stark vertreten war, ist der Tecnos selbst weniger durch große, dokumentierte Siege bekannt geworden, sondern vielmehr als hochwertiger Rahmen für ambitionierte Fahrer, die ein leichtes, reaktionsfreudiges und zugleich klassisches Rennrad suchten. Sein heutiger Ruf speist sich daher nicht primär aus Erfolgen im Profisport, sondern aus seiner technischen Besonderheit, dem geringen Gewicht, der präzisen Handarbeit und der ikonischen Art-Decor-Optik. Während moderne Colnagos wie die aktuellen Carbonmodelle klar auf maximale Performance ausgelegt sind, verkörpert der Tecnos eine Epoche, in der Ingenieurskunst, Design und handwerkliche Tradition im Stahlrahmenbau ihren Höhepunkt erreichten.

Aufgebaut ist ein solcher Klassiker natürlich nur mit den edelsten Komponenten. Hier kommt selbstverständlich die Campagnolo Record Carbon Gruppe in der 2×9-fach-Ausführung zum Einsatz. Die Gruppe ist in einem absolut neuwertigen Zustand und arbeitet perfekt. Ein weiteres absolutes Highlight ist der Laufradsatz: Hier kommt ein ultraleichter Corima Carbon-Laufradsatz zum Einsatz. Selbst der Naben­körper besteht aus Carbon und ist äußerst leicht sowie optisch sehr ansprechend. Montiert sind selbstverständlich hochwertige Vittoria Corsa Pro Reifen und eine 9 Fach Campagnolo Record Titanium Kassette. Ein ITM-Cockpit, eine Carbonsattelstütze und ein Selle Italia Flite Titanium Sattel lassen dieses Rad auf gerade einmal 7.630g kommen. Ich glaube sagen zu können, dass dies ein sensationelles Gewicht für einen Stahlrahmen ist. 

Dieses Rad eignet sich auch heute noch für sportliches und schnelles Fahren. Im Vergleich zu aktuellen Rädern wiegt es minimal mehr, bietet dafür aber eine völlig eigenständige, zeitlose Optik.

Der Zustand des Rahmens, der Laufräder und sämtlicher Komponenten kann als absolut neuwertig bezeichnet werden.

The Colnago "Tecnos Art Decor" presented here is one of the most exceptional steel frames ever to leave the Colnago factory in Cambiago. Its distinctively shaped Columbus Nivacrom tubeset was developed specifically for Colnago as an evolution of classic steel craftsmanship and combined exceptional stiffness with an unusually low weight for a steel frame of its time. The characteristic waved and partially pentagonal tube profiles were not just for looks: they increased structural stability without adding weight – a technical feat of the late 1990s. The tube diameters are slightly larger compared to the similarly styled Master frames, making the Tecnos both lighter and stiffer.
Visually, the Tecnos in its Art Decor paint scheme is a masterpiece of Italian craftsmanship. The elaborate color gradients, stencil work, and chrome details on the lugs, dropouts, and the classic Precisa steel fork make each frame a unique work of art. This combination of technical refinement and artistic execution is typical of Colnago and contributes significantly to the frame's value among collectors today.
The Tecnos was produced roughly between 1995 and 2000 and is considered one of the last high-end steel frames before aluminum and later carbon came to dominate the market.

While modern Colnagos—especially the current carbon models—are clearly designed for maximum performance, the Tecnos represents an era in which engineering skill, design, and craftsmanship in steel frame building reached their peak.
A classic of this caliber is, of course, equipped only with the finest components. This example features the Campagnolo Record Carbon groupset in the 2×9-speed configuration. The groupset is in absolutely like-new condition and performs flawlessly. Another major highlight is the wheelset: an ultra-light Corima carbon wheelset is fitted. Even the hub body is made of carbon, extremely light, and visually very appealing. High-quality Vittoria Corsa Pro tires are naturally installed as well. An ITM cockpit, a carbon seatpost, and a Selle Italia Flite Titanium saddle bring the bike to an impressive weight of just 7,630 g. I believe it is fair to say that this is a sensational weight for a steel frame.
This bike is still perfectly suitable for fast and sporty riding today. Compared to modern bikes, it weighs slightly more, but in return offers a completely unique and timeless appearance.
